Mounted on Driftwood, 25 inches tall. Steam-Bent Great Blue Heron Creations are typically built from alternating strips of White Oak and Walnut or Sapele. The strips are heated using steam for 8-12 hours. When they are indivudually removed from the steam they are immediately bent into specially created molds.After the wood cools (typically overnight) they are combined into a gluing frame and laminated together. The alternating Oak and Sapele or Walnut strips give the herons their unusual coloring. Sapele is an African Hardwood, similar to Mahogany.
